Prewar Imperial Japanese Nambu Training Rifle Catalog Military School Gun:
$249.00

DescriptionThis is an original prewar Japanese sales brochure for the Nambu-style training rifle, an unusual surviving piece of Japan’s military education and firearms history. The brochure shows the training rifle itself together with illustrations, diagrams, specifications, accessories, and what appears to be contemporary sales and pricing information. What makes this piece especially interesting is that it is not simply a technical manual. It appears to have been created as a commercial sales guide, showing how this type of training rifle was presented and marketed to customers in prewar Japan. What was a Nambu Training Rifle?Training rifles of this type were produced for use in schools, youth training programs, and military drill instruction before World War II.They were not standard combat rifles intended for battlefield service. Instead, they were designed to teach the fundamentals of rifle handling: carrying, aiming, drill movements, basic operation, and military discipline.During the prewar period, military drill became an important part of education and youth training in Japan. Training rifles allowed students and trainees to practice military movements and firearms handling without requiring the routine use of a standard service rifle. The term “Nambu-style” places this rifle within the broader history of Japanese firearms development associated with the Nambu tradition, one of the best-known names in early 20th-century Japanese arms history. This brochure therefore represents something slightly different from the firearm itself:It shows how the weapon was explained, illustrated, priced, and sold at the time. The seller’s name, Okura Gun Shop, can also be seen in the material, making this an interesting artifact not only of Japanese military history, but also of the commercial firearms trade in prewar Japan.Surviving training rifles occasionally appear on the collector market, but original period sales catalogs and commercial literature were far more disposable, and examples like this are much less commonly encountered.A fascinating piece for collectors of Japanese militaria, military education, firearms history, training rifles, and prewar Japanese printed ephemera.Own a Piece of History.Shipping
