Pullman Top Marked Indian Tree Pattern 10 9/16\" Heavy Weight Serving Platter For Sale

Offered for your consideration is this Pullman Indian Tree Pattern serving platter. It measures 10 9/16\" by 7 5/16\" and was made by the Syracuse China Co.This particular piece is done in special top marked – Indian Tree pattern that can be found on page 231 of Mr. Luckin’s “Dining on Rails” railroad china book. It would have seen service all across the United States. The date code is 9-BB signifying a September 1947 manufacturing date.

Historically, the Pullman Company was headquartered in Pullman, Illinois, which the company was responsible for operating most of the national railroad passenger sleeping car service from 1900 on. It originally was the Pullman Palace Car Company, which not only maintained sleeping cars for railroads, but also constructed them, and was started by the famed George Pullman. Pullman himself reorganized the company in 1900 from the name of the Pullman Palace Car Co. to that of the Pullman Co.

The company also acquired other sleeping car companies during the early years, which included even the Wagner Sleeping Car Co.During the mid 20th Century, Pullman was forced to divest itself of its sleeping car operations, but maintained its car building company.Though the new Pullman Company was owned by most of the nations railroads, it was then still operated by Pullman up to the it exit from passenger service operations.

This platter would have been used aboard one of the Pullman dining cars / lounge cars, or even for sleeping car service for guest for serving a complete entree, a chicken, fish, meat, or vegetables in the most elegant manner while enjoying the 1st class sleeping – lounge – and even dining cars operated by Pullman for a railroad line.Additionally, it would have been used in connection with the Pullman railroad silver soldered – silver plate and glassware for actual table and room service.It is the heavyweight type steamship, restaurant, and hotel china.
