RARE 1994 CHICAGO & NORTH WESTERN RAILROAD SYSTEM HARRIMAN AWARD WATCH
A wonderful piece of American railroad history and C&NW railroadiana.
This vintage watch prominently features the Chicago & North Western Railroad System emblem on the dial along with the 1994 Harriman Award designation. The watch represents the final era of the historic Chicago & North Western Railway before its acquisition by Union Pacific in 1995.
This is being offered primarily as a railroad collector’s watch and piece of C&NW memorabilia. The railroad emblem and Harriman Award connection are the highlights of this unusual piece.
History/Background Information:
This watch was issued to Chicago & North Western Railroad employees in 1995 to commemorate the 1994 Harriman Safety Award. The 1994 award was the final Harriman Award associated with Chicago & North Western before the railroad was acquired by Union Pacific in 1995.
The Harriman award was founded in 1913 by Mary Averell Harriman, wife of the late Edward H. Harriman. After her death, the award was presented by her sons E. Roland Harriman and W. Averell Harriman.
UP announced on January 5, 2012 to their employees that after the 2012 award ceremony that the Harriman award will be retired. This is after 98 years of being awarded. This was a decision by the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

CONDITION
Vintage, original and authentically worn — exactly as found, with no cosmetic restoration.
The watch remains in original vintage condition and has not been cosmetically restored or refinished.
There are visible surface scratches and signs of age/use to the crystal, case and bracelet, as shown in the photographs. The gold-tone finish also shows age-related wear.
I have intentionally left the watch in its original condition rather than polishing, buffing, replating or replacing components.
The new battery has been installed and the watch is currently running. I have not represented this vintage quartz watch as recently serviced or guaranteed for long-term accuracy.

This would make a great Father’s Day gift to that Chicago and North Western fan. Watch has original band, battery replaced, working great.
