Stunning vintage Japanese Moriage Dragonware tea set featuring raised enamel dragon scales, sculpted dragon head spouts and handles, and lithophane geisha portraits hidden in the base of each cup. When held to light, the delicate geisha image appears through the porcelain.
This hand-painted set displays heavy moriage beadwork across the dragons and handles with layered matte and glossy enamel decoration. The dragon motif winds across each piece and the plates feature a beautifully painted geisha riding a dragon design.
According to family history, the set was brought back from overseas by a Merchant Marine and has remained in the same family since.
