Original Snow VillageVintage Early 1976 Department 56 Small Chalet w/light cord
This chalet is part of the very first group of six lighted ceramic Snow Village houses produced by Department 56It is hand painted with two blue birds and a tree. I love the light coming out of the chimney!! It measures 6-5/8 inches wide and 6 inches high to the top of the tree and 5 inches to the top of the chalet.No box but will includes a light cord. It is 50 years old!!! I do not see any chips or cracks. The smaller size makes it a great addition to a shelf or table.The label on the bottom says: "Made Exclusively for Dept 56/ Taiwan".
The Snow Village story from the Department 56 web site: ".....As they rounded a bend in the road, they saw the small, old-fashioned village decorated for the holidays. The lights, like fairies, glowed and sparkled amid the freshly fallen snow. All evening, the conversation was full of Christmas memories and the visions the tiny town had evoked. Amidst the jovial banter and magical memories, the idea for a lighted Christmas village was born. That spark of an idea became a reality when, in 1976, Department 56 introduced a series of six hand-painted, ceramic buildings. The rest is history."
