For sale is this exceptional, authentic piece of 1930s Art Deco toleware in chrome-plated steel and bakelite.Key Features & Design Elements

• The Engraving: The centerpiece of the tray features an etched depiction of Pomona (from the Latin word pomum which means \"fruit\" or \"orchard fruit\"), the Roman goddess of fruitful abundance, orchards, and gardens. She is captured in a signature Art Deco geometric style, extending her arms over a highly stylized, patterned fruit orchard beneath a radiant sunburst.
• The Hardware: The three wrapping \"feet\" or handles are made of translucent \"Apple Juice\" Bakelite (a precursor to modern plastics and acrylics) molded with iconic Art Deco stepped ribbing.
• The Rim: The outer edge is detailed with a fine serrated or beaded rim rather than being completely smooth, a common detail in premium 1930s cocktail and serving ware.

The engraved design is inspired by the designs of Lee Laurie (1877-1963), the Art Deco pioneering American sculptor. Note how the line quality in the platter\'s engraving mirrors Laurie\'s work for \"Wisdom\" – an architectural frieze placed above the main entrance of 30 Rockefeller Plaza\'s GE building in midtown Manhattan.
This beautiful, slightly-bowled platter is 14\" in diameter and is 2\" high. It has been in my personal collection since the mid-1980s and has been very well cared for. I never used it as a serving platter/tray, instead I used common plate hanging hardware to hang it like a piece of Art Deco art.
