RPPC c1910s Public School Downing Missouri Burned Down Defunct PostcardSmall bit of edge and corner wear from stroage.Item: Original Antique Real Photo Postcard (RPPC). Front View: Architectural study of the historic multi-story wooden clapboard Public School building in Downing, Missouri, featuring the multi-windowed facade, double-door entrance, two brick roof chimneys, and an early street lantern. Publisher: International Stereograph Co., Decatur, Illinois. Stamp Box Date Indicator: Features an authentic AZO Stamp Box with all four triangles pointing upward. This configuration narrows down the photographic paper stock production era precisely between 1904 and 1918. Historical Significance: This postcard preserves a rare visual record of a lost Schuyler County landmark. The early wooden school building shown here no longer stands; it was later replaced, and the historical Downing school structures subsequently burned down in a fire during the late 1960s. This disaster destroyed many of the original town documents and school records, making surviving photographs highly sought after by local historians and family genealogists. Condition: Good antique condition. The card shows a short, handwritten contemporary date and town name in ink on the lower-left section. Displays uniform light age-toning across the back, mild corner rounding, and a faint pencil marking "2" in the top right margin. Unposted and unused.TranscriptionsBack Side Handwriting: "May, 28, 1911. Downing Mo."Back Side Printed Text: "POST CARD" "CORRESPONDENCE HERE" "NAME AND ADDRESS HERE" "▲ AZO ▲ PLACE STAMP HERE ▲ AZO ▲"
