This is an early 20th century RS Prussia porcelain berry bowl set. 1900-1915The Reinhold Schlegelmilch porcelain factory, operating in Tillowitz, Germany (now Tułowice, Poland), produced some of the most distinctive export porcelain of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known popularly as RS Prussia, these wares were heavily imported into the United States through department stores and direct mail catalogs, where they became exceedingly popular with middle-class homemakers.The intricate, fluid molded designs characteristic of the Art Nouveau and late Victorian periods required sophisticated multi-part metal molds. Artisans combined delicate lithographic transfers with meticulous hand-painting, particularly in the highlighting of gold accents and floral centers, to create the luminous, iridescent surfaces collectors prize today.
