KIM ELLWOOD & MIKE ABBOTT SPACE PLANT TROLLEY CLOCK – HAND-PRINTED METAL – WORKINGAn original Kim Ellwood & Mike Abbott “Space Plant Trolley Clock”, produced in hand-printed and kiln-fired stainless steel. The model name is confirmed by the original label retained with the piece.Kim Ellwood studied BA (Hons) Jewellery at Middlesex University, while Mike Abbott studied MA Metalwork at the Royal College of Art. According to the original accompanying information, following graduation in 1985 their collaborative work developed a reputation in the UK, Europe and USA, with their colourful clocks and jewellery individually hand printed and kiln fired onto stainless steel.This wonderfully eccentric design features a central working clock surrounded by brightly coloured, spiked “space plants”, mounted on a decorative four-wheel trolley base. The clock face and base are both marked Kim Ellwood + Mike Abbott.The original quartz movement remains fitted and is marked HECHINGER, W. Germany. The clock has been tested and is working correctly. It is supplied with one new battery used for testing and a second new sealed spare battery.Original box, hanging maker\'s tag and illustrated information/instruction leaflet are included. The original box label identifies the design as “Space Plant Trolley Clock” and retains an £80 price notation.Overall in very good vintage condition. There are some small areas of surface/print loss and light age-related marks, including a small loss to the red centre of the clock face and a few minor marks elsewhere. These are shown clearly in the photographs. Much of the spotted and speckled appearance throughout the design is part of the original decoration rather than wear.A striking and increasingly uncommon piece of late-20th-century British studio craft, combining functional design with Ellwood & Abbott\'s characteristically colourful and humorous imagery.Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the exact item, condition, original packaging and accompanying documentation.
