A rare Lagunitas Brewing Company STARR \"X\" wall mount bottle opener from Brown MFG Co.\'s short 2010 to 2015 Made in USA production run. The zinc-aluminum body carries unusually detailed debossed advertising filled with vivid red and black paint. The design brings together the Lagunitas name, its ring-eyed dog mascot, and the wonderfully blunt slogan Beer Speaks. People Mumble. It is a functional bar piece with enough character and graphic impact to stand on its own as breweriana.

History
Lagunitas began after Chicago native Tony Magee received a homebrewing kit for Christmas in 1992. He brewed his first batch in February 1993 and had a brewery operating by that December. His first pale ale was called Dogtown, after an old railroad stop in western Marin County, and Magee later explained that Dogtown was how a dog first found its way onto the label. The ring-eyed mascot was not Magee\'s personal pet. He identified Petey, the canine member of the Our Gang comedies later known as The Little Rascals, as the inspiration. Magee remembered Petey as the star of the gang and wanted the loyalty and friendliness associated with a good dog to become part of the brewery\'s identity. That makes the detailed dog portrait on this opener much more than a decorative logo.

Lagunitas took its name from the tiny Marin County community near Magee\'s original home, although the brewery soon operated in nearby Forest Knolls and moved to Petaluma in 1994. Magee personally developed much of the brand\'s unconventional writing. He explained Beer Speaks. People Mumble. as a statement that the beer itself was the real business, rather than promotional noise. Magee\'s hometown eventually became an important second chapter. Lagunitas opened a major Chicago brewery in 2014 inside the former Ryerson steel complex in North Lawndale beside Douglass Park. The industrial setting suited a brewery known for doing things differently. Chicago production and the taproom closed in 2024, with brewing consolidated at Petaluma. Heineken acquired half of Lagunitas in 2015 and became its sole owner in 2017.

Brown MFG Co. was founded in Newport News, Virginia in 1925 by Coca-Cola bottler Raymond \"Coca-Cola\" Brown. More than a century later, Brown remains associated with the enduring STARR bottle-opener line. This Lagunitas opener belongs to Brown\'s short-lived 2010 to 2015 series of Made in USA zinc-aluminum STARR \"X\" openers. The series used debossed advertising cavities filled with color, allowing considerably more detail than a typical raised-logo opener. Production ended in 2015, meaning even the newest examples are now more than a decade old. The limited production window, detailed Petey artwork, two-color decoration, and strong Lagunitas branding make this a rare crossover collectible for both breweriana and STARR specialists.

Condition
Good used condition with visible surface wear, scattered scratches and scuffs, and localized wear to the red and black paint fill. The principal Lagunitas graphics, dog portrait, and slogan remain bold and clearly legible. Please review all photos closely, as they are part of the condition description.
