Rare antique French World War I bronze plaquette by noted sculptor Max Blondat, titled:
“Le Vêtement du Prisonnier de Guerre”
(“The Clothing of the Prisoner of War”)
The reverse inscription reads:
“Fondée en Décembre 1914
À ceux qui l’ont créée
À ceux qui l’ont aidée”
This commemorative plaquette relates to the French wartime aid organization established in December 1914 to support prisoners of war. The obverse depicts a seated prisoner writing, rendered in expressive high relief characteristic of early 20th century French medallic art.
Signed in the design by Max Blondat and marked:
“MAX BLONDAT d’après FORAIN”
with additional foundry/casting marks along the edge.
A scarce example retaining its original fitted presentation box with velvet lining and silk interior.
