Rare Antique Qing Dynasty 2-Tiered Chinese Brides Wedding Basket, Dragon Handles, is 22\" tall x 16\" wide ~ 19th Century
Late Qing Dynasty Chinese Red lacquer Wedding Basket with handcrafted wood and wicker woven multilayers (2 layers) 7\" each.Nesting crates, such as these, were designed to be given as wedding gifts to store the treasures of the happy couple.Material: red lacquer, brass, wood and bambooA 3-tier round form with magnificently carved bamboo overhead handle and brass hardware.The woven containers of equal height with the bottom tier affixed to the bamboo side supports.These uprights have pierced carved stanchions in the designs of opposing phoenixes among peonies and dragons.The uprights have relief carving in three raised panels on each side.The pierced and carved brass hardware consists of a cutout panel on each side connecting the stanchions to the uprights, a saddle on the overhead handle, and a double headed dragon handle.The lid with woven \"Double Happiness\" symbol. All motifs are symbolic blessings for the newlywed couple.Would be a great addition to any Chinese basket collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent piece.
