STUNNING LARGE VINTAGE GERMAN ANIMATED SQUIRREL EDELWEISS MUSICAL CUCKOO CLOCK For Sale

This is an outstanding find of a beautiful, deeply carved, lightly used, large, animated, musicaltraditional mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 40 years ago in the Black Forest of what was then, \"West Germany.\" The clock is breathtaking and sports a gorgeous, blended, dark mahogany finish! It is a wonderful clock, ornately detailed and carved. It is just stunning, works quite well, keeps good time, cuckoos as it should, animates well and the music is wonderful too! It\'s an impressive size too measuring about 11 1/2\" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6\" at its deepest point, and about 8\" or so at its widest point. The clock is well preserved and carved the old world, high standard way from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest.The clock front is designed to look like an intricate grape vine and adorned with five, large, deeply carved, wavy wooden grape leaves and a vining branch. There is a deeply carved, stationery squirrel perched to the lower right dial and an animated squirrel mounted to the lower left of the dial. The animated squirrel is dancing to somehow impress the other squirrel every time the cuckoo bird makes his rounds; really cute! There is also a very large, equally impressive carved wooden bird atop the clock looking as though he\'s ready to take flight.The wooden dial has a woodtone backdrop featuring Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of matching, fancy hands to point out the time. The back door is wood too and secured with a metal latch.It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical, weight driven movement created by \"Regula\" and bearing the West Germany point of origin too.A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The bellows or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look good and make good sound.At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird opens the small, fancy wooden door to the right above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current hour before going back inside the case and closing the door behind him. When he\'s safely inside, the door to the left above the dial opens and a colorful Black Forest man appears holding a zither in his lap. At the same time, a high quality \"Swiss Lador\" music box inside the case plays a heavenly rendition of \"Edelweiss,\" one of the most famous tunes ever produced and introduced in the Sound of Music. When the music stops, the man retreats aback inside the clock and closes the door; absolutely fascinating! There is an intact factory label on the side of the case identifying the song title, Switzerland origin, and the Lador manufacture. Keep in mind that even though it looks rather new, it is not but it works very well here. You\'d never suspect it was a 41 year-old clock. Remember that all mechanical clocks like this one, do require maintenance. We don\'t know the service history though the movement does show signs of past service but nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, a fancy, hand carved, wooden grape leaf pendulum, and three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights.I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and found very little signs of use and no repairs or missing parts. The clock is just gorgeous on display!
