What \"Compensated\" means:
This is not a mercury barometer. It is a mechanical aneroid barometer.
Inside are pressure-sensitive, evacuated metal capsules. As the atmospheric pressure changes, the capsules expand or contract as the mechanical linkage moves the pointer.
What “Holosteric” means:
A holosteric barometer is an aneroid barometer. Instead of using a column of liquid mercury, it measures air pressure with a sealed, partially evacuated metal capsule that flexes slightly as atmospheric pressure changes.
The word comes from Greek:
- holos = whole
- stereos = solid
So holosteric essentially means “entirely solid”, distinguishing it from a mercury (liquid) barometer.
After you receive it, it should be calibrated:
First, ask Seri or your I Phone for the current atmospheric pressure in inches of mercury. Then, open the glass cover and, using a very small slot-head screwdriver, turn the small slot-head pin slowly while looking at the black needle on the face. Turn the screwdriver left or right to the current pressure setting. Close the small cover at the back. It will then display correct changes in pressure over time.
Use the adjustable needle at the center of the glass cover to show changes of the pressure, up or down, over timeIncluded as seen in photos are brass screws and nylon washers to properly mount the barometer.
