Vintage Schott Mainz Jenaer Glas Opal casserole in the hand-painted “onion” pattern — gold, red, and green florals on heat-resistant white opal glass, made in West Germany. This one comes complete with its original clear glass lid, the “feuerfest” (fireproof) guarantee box, and the printed German instruction/warranty card, which is dated 1965 — a nice detail that helps pin down exactly when this piece was made. Jenaer Glas was Schott’s answer to American Pyrex, and pieces with the full original packaging like this are much harder to come by than the dish alone.

✦ chips or cracks, smooth edges, bright pattern with no fading. Box has normal age wear (creasing, edge wear) but fully intact. Card intact and legible. A couple tiny pinpoint spots of paint loss on two of the gold motifs — barely noticeable unless you’re looking for them.
