Charming purple and green ceramic sugar bowl and creamer set made in the classic Scottish Highland thistle design associated with Govancroft/Clyde pottery.
These pieces are unmarked and are being offered as a later reproduction or pottery made in that style. They are not being represented as authenticated Govancroft or Clyde pieces.
Both pieces feature the distinctive rounded green thistle body with an embossed diamond-and-dot pattern, accented by darker green glaze that settles into the recessed decoration. The deeply ribbed purple tops resemble thistle blossoms, with beautiful blue-green glaze pooling where the purple and green sections meet.
The pieces appear to have been molded from greenware and individually decorated and glazed. Visible mold seams and natural variations in the glaze can be seen, giving the set plenty of character.
The creamer has a flared pouring spout and curved handle. The matching sugar bowl has the same thistle form and coordinating purple and green glaze.
Measurements:
• Sugar bowl: approximately 2 1/4" tall × 2 1/2" wide
• Creamer: approximately 3" tall × 3 1/2" wide
Condition: The creamer has a small shallow chip on the exterior just below the rim near the spout, clearly shown in the close-up photo. No other chips or cracks noted. Please review all photographs carefully as part of the condition description.
A wonderfully unusual little set for a collector of Scottish thistle pottery, Highland decor, Govancroft/Clyde-style ceramics, vintage pottery or botanical kitchenware.
Sugar bowl and creamer are sold together as a set.
