This sleek mid-century hand-carved Virgin Mary statuette elevates the classic praying hands version of the icon with faceted, geometric lines tapering down to her delicate feet balanced on a round ball, perched on an angled block of walnut. The artist chose a creamy maple wood with chatoyance (similar to curly maple) creating a shimmering effect as the depth of the grain caused light to reflect at different angles with a lustrous, jewel-like appearance - making the blessed virgin appear to slightly glow.
