Takatori ware is traditionally characterised by earthy tones decorated with natural glazes. Originating from the late 16th century, it was developed under the kirei-sabi aesthetic and guidance of tea master Kobori Enshū, thus elevating Takatori ware\'s position in the world of tea ceramics. This hira-chawan showcases a unique blue tonal gradation which pools in the centre. The use of multiple natural glazes retains the capacity for originality, culminating in this original glaze style here known as Tenmitsu (Celestial Honey). A glaze most delectable: on a hot summer day, bees and wasps were drawn to the glaze of this bowl, leaving their mark and enhancing the surface in a natural process that elevated the piece to embody \"shizen\". Inspired by Tenmoku bowls and the convention of \"janome\" or \"snake\'s eye\" at the bottom of sake cups, the unpredictable blue flushes of glaze, transformed by flame create a beautiful intrigue to enhance one\'s tea drinking experience.
