Tom Hayes served as a fighter pilot with the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and became recognized for his combat service flying the legendary P-51 Mustang in the European Theater. Hayes flew escort and fighter missions against German forces during the air war over Europe and remains associated with the courage and legacy of the Allied fighter pilots of WWII.

Hayes continues to be remembered among collectors of WWII fighter ace and military aviation memorabilia, particularly those connected to the iconic P-51 Mustang.
