Originating in Panama, Colombia, and across Central and South America, Molas are now celebrated as decorative and collectible art pieces. They can be framed, turned into pillow covers, used in quilting, or displayed as vibrant wall art. TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUE & SYMBOLISMMolas are made using a reverse appliqué technique, layering and cutting colorful fabrics to create intricate designs. Many depict geometric patterns inspired by ancestral body paintings, while others portray rainforest wildlife and scenes drawn from the natural world that surrounds Guna communities.
