The Tuckaseegee & Southeastern Railway was incorporated in North Carolina on August 6, 1920, to acquire and operate a railroad then under construction by the Blackwood Lumber Company. The date of organization was August 28, 1920.The line extended from a connection with the Southern Railway at Sylva, NC in a general southeasterly direction up the gorge of the Tuckaseegee
River to East La Porte, NC, 12.179 miles. Construction began in July 1920 and the road was opened for operation on July 1, 1922. The ICC authorized acquisition of this road by the Tuckaseegee & Southeastern on July 7, 1922. The line also connected with the logging railroad of the Blackwood Lumber Company at East La Porte. The main line was laid with 60-lb. relay rail and was mostly earth surfaced.The railroad was built primarily to furnish transportation for the lumber manufactured by the sawmill of the Blackwood Lumber Company at East
La Porte. Authorized capital stock was $300,000, all of which was issued to the Blackwood Lumber Company in partial repayment of construction
