This is a new WWII submarine battle flag challenge coin commemorating the combat service and patrol history of USS Bowfin (SS-287). The USS Bowfin (SS-287) was a Balao-class submarine of the United States Navy and one of the most successful submarines of World War II. Commissioned in 1943, earned its nickname of “The Pearl Harbor Avenger” (stemming from her launch date one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor) for aggressive tactics and exceptional combat effectiveness in the Pacific Theater.
