Vintage/later photographic reproduction showing the USS Squalus (SS-192) in dry dock following the famous 1939 sinking and salvage operation.
The submarine’s hull number “192” is visible in the image. USS Squalus sank off Portsmouth, New Hampshire during a test dive in May 1939 and was later raised, rebuilt, and recommissioned as USS Sailfish.
This appears to be a later photographic reproduction of an earlier historic image rather than an original 1939 Navy or press photograph.
