USS Tarawa (LHA-1) was the lead ship of the Tarawa class of amphibious assault ships. Commissioned in 1976, Tarawa was designed to embark, transport and land U.S. Marine Corps forces using helicopters, landing craft and other amphibious equipment.
Tarawa served the United States Navy for more than three decades before being decommissioned in 2009.
This example is the narrow embroidered ship-name rocker/tab style rather than the larger pictorial USS Tarawa patches commonly sold to collectors.
