    New Market, Virginia, November the 15th, 1868. Dear sister, I will try to write you all a few lines this evening to give an account of myself the past month. I am well and hearty at present, don\'t know how long such will be the case. I am still going to school and like to go, I like the school a great deal better now than I did at first. I have not got any more books since I was over there, I would like to have some more, but have not got the means to get them. Amos wrote and got the prices..Page 2]
    ...of the books, and I can get them for less than I can get them of Prof. I would have written sooner but we had expected to come over Friday, but I guess we will not come as the weather is too bad to walk, so I guess I will not come over before Christmas. You all try to send my clothes as soon as possible for I need them. And I will have to have another coat & vest before long. And I have concluded not to have no shoes made, but I believe I will try a pair of boots. Mr. Linhorse will make me a pair about as cheap as I can get them out of the stores and will warrant them. There is another months board due and Mr. Fogle would like to have the money he only charged me five dollars for the first months board don\'t know what he will charge for last month.[Page 3]
    Mrs. Fogle is very poorly now I don\'t think she can stand it long any more. He has got a hard time of it as he has got to wait on Mrs. Fogle and do her own work they cannot get no one to stay with her. When you all send my clothes over bring my mucilage bottle & brush along. I left it in the corner cupboard. I told you all to tell Cousin George to send me that dialogue of handy annie and if he has not got the book with him to tell try to send me address we have concluded to try to have an exhibition over here at ChristmasPage 4]

Well I must tell you all something about my trip last Tuesday night, we had a nice time in town, I rode in the parade with the rest of them and I enjoyed myself very much. I rode Mr. Fogle\'s horse. Mr. Girkle wanted him to ride but he did not ride so I rode in his place. After the parade we had some speaking from some Gentlemen. The ladies did not like Mr. H.B.R. speech, he spoke about the tariff on the bustles! Some of the ladies told me that I ought to be ashamed to be in such a parade as we had, and I give them as good as they sent. I will close for this time, write soon. Your loving brother, G.W.S.
