Fantastic vintage handmade folk art wooden display sign reading “YE OLD PRINT SHOP.”
This wonderfully unusual piece features primitive hand construction with a freestanding wooden frame and hand-cut sign suspended from aged metal wire. The sign has deeply incised lettering, jagged hand-cut ends, and carved decorative details along the frame and base.
The reverse adds even more character, with various old hand-scratched names, initials and markings, including what appears to read “Clyde ….”
Exact age, maker and original purpose are unknown. Based on the construction, materials and natural aging, this appears to be an older handmade piece rather than a modern manufactured reproduction. It may have originally been created as a miniature trade or shop sign, decorative folk art display, store display, or prop.
Measures approximately 15" x 12".
Wonderful primitive condition with aged wood, surface wear, scratches, markings, oxidation to the metal wire and other imperfections consistent with its age and handmade nature. These characteristics are part of its wonderful folk art appeal. Please review all photos carefully for condition.
