VTG A-2 Deck Jacket USS Sample DE 1048 Garcia-Class Vietnam Service Med 38-40
Great overall condition - no rips or holes in the main coat but the interior wrist cuffs have some holes in them (see photos) - there are a few discolorations or stains on the coat shown in the photos. I did not want to wash it to avoid damaging the stenciling. I can take and send more photos if you want to message me.
If anyone knows what the \"0 40\" stands for I would love to know. I\'m guessing either sailor identification or position/MOS identifier versus it being a unit number(s).

USS Sample was commissioned in March 1968 and she served in Vietnam as aSAR (search and rescue), PIRAZ (Positive Identification Radar Advisory Zone), and naval gunfire support ship. She operated from Pearl Harbor andearned multiple Vietnam campaign/battle stars.

In 1975, the Navy re-designated her from DE-1048 to FF-1048 which dates this jacket closer to the ships commissioning and during the height of the Vietnam conflict, supported by its manufacturing contract date of 1967.
