Description
This vintage architectural miniature presents the United States Capitol in detailed three-dimensional form. The recognizable dome and Statue of Freedom are surrounded by carefully rendered columns, windows, porticos, rooftops, and stairways.
“The Capitol · Washington D.C.” appears across the front of the rectangular base. The underside bears a raised circular United States Capitol Historical Society seal featuring an image of the Capitol.
The United States Capitol Historical Society was established in 1962 to preserve and share the history of the Capitol and Congress. This piece is believed to date to approximately the 1970s–1980s based on its casting style, antiqued finish, and Society emblem. It is not dated, so the exact production year is unknown.
The miniature is made from a substantial nonmagnetic cast metal alloy. Because no pewter or metal-content mark is present, the finish is accurately described as antiqued pewter tone rather than solid pewter.
