Here is a vintage gold-plated Valet Auto-Strop Razor set, known as "The Million Dollar" razor, in its original box. The razor was known for its unique design which incorporated an automatic stropping mechanism that sharpened the blade as it was being used. It uses special single edge blades, there is 1 in the envelope and more in a sealed box. A strop is also included along with little notes as shown.
The promotional set was offered by McKesson & Robbins as a complimentary item to buyers of McKesson's Shaving Cream.The original manufacturer was the Autostrop Safety Razor Company, Inc., established in New York City in 1906. It was likely manufactured between approximately 1928 and 1935. The Valet AutoStrop company was acquired by Gillette in 1930.
Very good condition. Might not have been used for shaving because the blades are unopened, unused. Over time there is some tarnish on the gold plating. The box has an edge starting to split and general wear/age.
