Vintage 1920s Allyn's Dyeing Cleaning Portland Advertising Metal Figure Magic For Sale

Wonderful and apparently quite scarce vintage advertising display for Allyn's Dyeing & Cleaning Establishment of Portland, Oregon.

This colorful cast-metal advertising figure depicts a turbaned carpet merchant standing on an elaborate patterned rug and holding up a second “magic” carpet. The raised advertising lettering molded directly into the carpet reads:

ALLYN'S
DYEING – CLEANING
EAST 0123
AS IF BY MAGIC

The piece relates directly to Allyn's period advertising. A documented 1928 Portland advertisement for Allyn's Dyeing & Cleaning Establishment uses the slogan “AS IF BY MAGIC” and the telephone number EAST 0123, matching the advertising incorporated into this figure.

The underside also contains cast/stamped markings. Please see the detailed photographs for these markings.

Approximately 5 inches long and 5 inches high. The figure itself is approximately 3 1/2 inches across at the widest area. Please refer to the measurement photographs for exact dimensions.

The piece is made from a non-ferrous cast metal; a magnet does not adhere to it. Exact metal composition has not been tested, so it is being described conservatively as cast metal rather than bronze.

Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related paint loss, surface wear, scratches, scuffs and areas of discoloration/patina. There is noticeable paint loss to the figure, including the head/turban, clothing and hand, as shown. The underside has surface wear and old residue. No attempt has been made to clean, polish, repaint or restore the piece. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
