This real photo postcard features an alert chipmunk standing on its hind legs in the brush. The nature image is paired with an intense original poem about dodging a hawk attack. This is a non topographical postcard. The card is in unposted condition with minor edge wear from age. The back is clean. Rather than just a standard wildlife photograph this card features a five line poem titled The Sentinel written by the photographer F. V. Sampson right below the image. It tells a thrilling micro story about the chipmunk diving into a hole to escape a swooping hawk in a death dealing dash. The stamp box on the reverse features the AZO mark with small squares in all four corners which perfectly aligns with the printed 1937 copyright date.
