Beautiful vintage Albert Gilles solid copper religious wall plaque depicting Ste. Anne de Beaupré with the Virgin Mary as a child.
This highly detailed piece features raised repoussé/embossed copper work with wonderful dimensional detail throughout the figures, clothing, halos, and decorative borders. The plaque is signed “A. Gill” in the lower right.
The original label remains on the back and identifies the maker as Cuivres d’Art Gilles of Château-Richer, Quebec, Canada. The label also confirms that the piece is made of solid copper and was given a protective lacquer finish to help prevent tarnishing.
Albert Gilles was a noted Canadian copper artist whose workshop became well known for religious and architectural copper artwork in Quebec.
