Colossals were French-made estate pipes, with many examples stamped Algerian Briar / France. They’re generally associated with classic Saint-Claude-style production, although the exact factory behind them remains murky.
And the name fits — these things tend to be big, bold old-school pipes, often with oversized bowls and plenty of briar to work with. They were solid mid-grade smokers rather than prestige pieces, but the French-made examples have earned a little cult following among guys who appreciate good Algerian briar and uncommon estate brands.
Big French briar, plenty of character, and just obscure enough to be fun.

My shipping is a little more than some. I use UPS (unless it's going to a PO Box or non contiguous US) because UPS has a 98% success rate versus USPS at 87.5%. I have a dedicated UPS representative who goes above and beyond in the rare case there is a shipping issue. Three-ish dollars is worth the peace of mind in my opinion.
