Vintage D'Oyly Carte Lolanthe Poster Stone Lithograph Linen Backed Theatre 1920s For Sale

An original D'Oyly Carte Opera Company theatre poster, stone lithographed and linen backed for conservation. The D'Oyly Carte company held the performing rights to Gilbert and Sullivan for a century and toured these productions across Britain.

"Iolanthe" shows Private Willis, the Grenadier Guard sentry, hands on hips in scarlet tunic and bearskin, with a frieze of fairies above him - the collision of Fairyland and the House of Lords that gives the opera its plot.
