Up for sale is an incredibly rare piece of tobacciana history: a Vintage Pre-1981 GBD "Sculpt-A-Meerschaum" Carve-Your-Own Tobacco Pipe Kit, preserved in 100% New Old Stock (NOS), unused condition.
While GBD is legendary for its premium briar pipes, this hobby kit harks back to the company’s original 1850 Paris roots as master meerschaum carvers. Most of these mid-century kits were immediately carved and smoked by their original buyers, making an untouched, pristine block complete with its original factory packaging an exceptional archival find for collectors. Original box condition is good for its age slight sticker, residue as pictured.
Kit Details & Features:
* The Meerschaum Block: A solid, raw block of genuine mineral meerschaum. It is completely unworked and unblemished, showing the beautiful, uniform chalky-white texture of unhandled stone. The tobacco chamber bowl, draft hole, and shank airway are perfectly pre-drilled at the GBD factory.
* The Stem: A pristine, glossy black bent vulcanite stem pre-fitted with a flush white factory nylon insert collar for a seamless friction fit (no outdated cork lining required).
* The Wax Puck: Includes the original, un-melted round factory block of finishing wax, intended to seal and prime the stone once your custom carving is complete.
* The Box: Features the classic GBD walking lion logo and the iconic mid-century geometric graphic wrap. The inner lid features vivid orange and black graphics showcasing the famous "You Can Carve This [Lion] From This" illustration.
Condition Notes:
This set is completely unsmoked, unworked, and deadstock. The inner airways are clean with zero soot or tobacco residue. The graphics on the inner lid are incredibly crisp. Please review the photos carefully to verify the amazing preservation of this vintage kit.
