Vintage Ghana Hand Carved African Wood Mask Beaded Cowrie Shell Wall Art 13\" For Sale

The mask is mounted on an oval carved-wood plaque and features a dimensional dark face decorated with red, green, blue, white and black seed beads. Two cowrie shells accent the center of the face, while carved wooden details, contrasting painted sections and aged metal discs complete the design.

Cowrie shells have historically been associated with wealth, prosperity and trade throughout parts of West Africa. This piece was most likely produced as decorative Ghanaian wall art; its exact maker, age and cultural attribution are unknown.

Condition: Pre-owned condition with considerable age and storage wear. There is visible cracking and separation in the dark applied surface, scattered missing or loose beads, dust and surface grime, scratches, edge wear and oxidation/tarnish on the metal accents.
