Vintage handmade Greek ceramic wall plate/plaque featuring a dramatic Classical Greek scene of Helios, the sun god, driving his horse-drawn chariot, surrounded by a traditional Greek key/meander border.
The reverse is marked “CLASSIC PERIOD 440 BC,” referring to the ancient Classical-period artwork/design being reproduced. It also retains its original metal seal stamped “HAND MADE.”
Likely produced in Greece during the 1970s–1980s as a decorative reproduction inspired by ancient Greek pottery and museum artifacts. Beautiful black-and-tan coloration with an especially detailed chariot, horses, radiating sun motif and geometric border.
Original hanging wire remains attached, making it ready for wall display.
Good vintage condition with age-related surface wear, discoloration, spotting and edge wear as shown. These characteristics add nicely to its aged appearance. Please review all photos for exact condition.
Great decorative piece for collectors of Greek pottery, Classical antiquity reproductions, mythology, Helios/Apollo imagery, Mediterranean decor and vintage handmade ceramics.
Note: This is a vintage reproduction—the “440 BC” marking identifies the period of the ancient design and is not the manufacture date of this particular piece.
