Vintage Guatemalan Huipil Textile • Embroidered Blouse • Handwoven Wall Hanging:
$125.00

This piece was hand-selected during a sourcing trip through Guatemala, chosen not just for its craftsmanship—but for its composition, symbolism, and presence.
What immediately stood out to me as a designer is the density of the weave. The embroidery nearly fills the entire huipil, creating a richly layered surface where color and pattern feel continuous and intentional rather than spaced or minimal. It’s a piece that reads almost like a tapestry.
The neckline detailing is especially striking—intricately built with dimensional stitching that frames the central design. Unlike many textiles that are cut or repurposed, this huipil remains largely intact, meaning it could still be worn or adapted, in addition to being displayed.
The motifs throughout carry traditional meaning:
Diamond shapes represent the universe and protection—often seen as a window between worldsGeometric pathways and layered forms reflect life journeys, movement, and continuityFigural elements suggest community, story, and shared identity
Together, these elements create a textile that is both visually powerful and culturally rooted.
Because of its structure and fullness, this piece works beautifully as:
Wall art / statement textileA framed or mounted panelA standout piece for collectorsOr even worn / reimagined due to its preserved form
This is not a mass-produced textile—it’s a thoughtfully sourced piece with depth, history, and design integrity.
