Beautiful and unusual vintage hand-knotted Islamic pictorial prayer rug featuring a highly detailed architectural design.The upper portion depicts two elaborate mosque/holy-site scenes, apparently representing Mecca and Medina, while the lower field is dominated by a large golden-yellow mihrab / prayer niche, surrounded by architectural columns and floral borders.The rug has a striking old palette of deep blue, purple, golden yellow, orange and turquoise.This is a genuinely hand-knotted rug, not a modern printed prayer mat.
