Offered here is an exceptional matched pair of vintageMarion Bronze figural bookends, depicting dramatic Pirate/Buccaneer busts and dating to approximately the 1920s–1930s.
Each bookend bears the distinctive incised “MB” maker’s mark on the base, identifying the pair with Marion Bronze.
The wonderfully expressive pirate figures feature stern mustached faces, large hoop earrings and vividly painted red bandanas. Their bronze/gold faces contrast beautifully with cream-colored shirts, dark upper bases and richly detailed gold/bronze architectural bases.
These are substantial early American bronze-clad/electroformed decorative bookends, displaying the detailed sculptural modeling and colorful polychrome treatment for which bookends of this period are collected.
Sold as a pair as shown.
