Item Description

This is a very nice, heavy pair of vintage cast iron bookends produced by Nuydea, featuring a highly detailed historical Royal Mail stagecoach design.

The front of each bookend depicts the classic "Worcester and London Royal Mail No. 17" coach, complete with a coachman at the front and a rear guard blowing a horn. The side door of the carriage features an embossed profile of a passenger, surrounded by a royal shield emblem with the "GR" (Georgius Rex) monogram and floral details.

The front surfaces retain their bright, multi-colored paint finish, showcasing a primary yellow body with prominent red and dark green accents on the figures' clothing and the coach panels. The paint shows authentic, vintage wear, minor chipping, and a lovely aged patina that enhances the rustic, antique character of the pieces.

The textured backs of the bookends feature crisp, raised manufacturer identification marks and foundry stamping. This includes the official "Nuydea" brand name inside a diamond logo, "C.T. PAT.", and design number "D82405". Close inspection reveals faint mold and batch numbers used during production, including a faint "24" stamped near the patent text, a sideways "2", and a "D4" designation on one of the pieces. These markings confirm their early 20th-century foundry origin.

Both bookends stand solidly with flat, sturdy bases. They are free of cracks, structural breaks, or major damage, showing only the typical surface patina and paint wear expected of genuine vintage cast iron decor.
