The two-piece egg is covered with cream-colored lithographed paper featuring burgundy/red illustrations inspired by traditional toy theatre imagery. One side depicts a theatrical scene with costumed figures and “Pollock\'s Shop” signage; the reverse reads “Pollock\'s Toy Museum & Toy Theatres – Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – No. 1 Scala Street, London W.1.”
The interior is lined with a repeating floral paper pattern and is clearly printed “Container made in Western Germany.” The halves have contrasting orange-red rims.
These papier-mâché/cardboard Easter eggs were traditionally produced in Germany as reusable containers for candy and small Easter gifts. This example is particularly interesting because it was made as a souvenir or retail item for Pollock\'s Toy Museum, the London institution associated with Benjamin Pollock and Britain\'s long tradition of miniature paper toy theatres.
Item measure 5\" in length, 3\" wide and 3.5\" in height when \'assembled\'.
Condition: Vintage used condition with considerable age-related surface wear. There is some toning/yellowing, staining, & cracking/wrinkling of the applied paper covering, along with edge and rim wear. The two halves remain present and fit together. The wear gives it a genuinely aged appearance but should be clearly shown in the listing photos. Please review all photos for condition.
