A wonderful piece of Chicago amusement park history. Riverview Park operated in Chicago from 1904 until its closing in 1967, located on the city's north side (bordered by Belmont Avenue, Western Avenue, and the North Branch of the Chicago River). At its peak it was one of the largest amusement parks in the country, famous for rides like The Bobs, the Silver Flash, and the Pair-O-Chutes parachute tower.
This professionally assembled display features 35 vintage ride tickets from the park arranged around 6 vintage color photographs of the park in operation, including the main entrance arch, the Silver Flash coaster station, the Pair-O-Chutes parachute ride, the bumper boats, and a scenic view of the midway. "RIVERVIEW PARK" lettering is arranged down the center of the piece between the photos. Ride tickets represented include Tilt-A-Whirl, Flash, Wild Mouse, Bump 'Em, Fireball, Streamliner, Caterpillar, Safari, Chutes, Whip, Crazy Dazy, Paratrooper, Merry Go Round, Bubble Bounce, Old Mill, Kiddyland, Space Ride, Comet, Stratostat, Flying Turns, Bobs, Flying Scooter, Hot Rods, Kiddie City, Ferris Wheel, Jetstream, Boomerang, Water Bug, Rotor, Pair-O-Chutes, Aladdin's Castle, Space Ride, Ghost Train, Rollo Plane, and a 2-Cent Day admission ticket, among others. Several tickets are printed for independent ride concessionaires who operated within the park (Thrills Inc., R. Curland, H. Parker, A. Koss, Northwest Amuse. Rides Inc., West Amuse. Rides Inc.) alongside the main Riverview Park Co. tickets - an interesting detail reflecting how the park licensed out individual rides to operators.
The backing of the frame is hand-inscribed in pencil "June 1983 - Int'l Galleries - Orchard Shopping Center - Chicago, IL," indicating this piece was professionally assembled and framed by International Galleries in June 1983, using genuine vintage tickets and photographs from the park's operating years. I'm passing along exactly what the backing tells us rather than guessing further at its history.
Housed in a gold-tone metal frame with glass front, black matting. Frame measures approximately 18 1/4" x 18 1/4" square. Please review all photos closely, including the close-up shots of individual tickets and the frame backing, as they are part of the description.
