Vintage Schlevogt Ingrid Czech Jade Glass 3 Pc Vanity Mirror Brush Set Art Deco For Sale

Three-piece Czech dressing set from Curt Schlevogt's Ingrid collection: a hand mirror, handled hairbrush, and clothes brush. Molded jade-green glass backs, raised flowers and scrolling ornament, set in detailed gilt style metal mounts. Schlevogt offered two principal brush-set designs: an earlier putti design made with several handle and mounting variations, and this floral design, illustrated as no. 983 in the firm's 1939 catalog. It's common to see Ingrid jade-glass referred to as Malachite Glass.

Beveled glass mirror, beautiful elaborate designs throughout and fantastic open terminals on the two long-handled pieces. Overall lengths are approximately 12 1/4" for the mirror, 10 1/8" for the hairbrush, and 6 1/4" for the clothes brush. Condition is remarkably good for the age and they are striking in appearance.

• No chips or cracks observed in the glass. The metal mounts and openwork details appear complete, with no broken or missing ornament.
• The metal retains its aged patina, with localized darkening, oxidation, and light surface wear. The set has been gently cleaned but not polished or soaked; slight dust and age-related buildup remain in some crevices, though they appear to have been well kept over the years.
• The bristles are fairly clean and have coverage consistent with the set's age and no large areas of loss. No active obvious shedding, noticed 1-2 individual loose filaments when cleaning max. They have not been scrubbed. The wooden brush backs show no obvious splits, a few dark spots are present.
• The beveled mirror remains clear and useful, with faint grainlike streaking and tiny dark specks in the reflective backing, common for the age. Components appear to retain their original fastening nails.

The accompanying reference images show no. 983 on page 20 of Schlevogt's 1939 Ingrid catalog and jade and lapis examples in figure 213 of Eduard Stopfer's study, “Bürsten-Garnituren der Firma Curt Schlevogt,” Pressglas-Korrespondenz 2006-4, page 258. These references establish the design and its period offering, though not the production date of this particular set. Stopfer documents Josef Riedel's Polaun glassworks as a producer of components for Schlevogt's related putti brush set; the maker of the glass inserts in no. 983 is not separately confirmed. If we had to make an educated guess on the pieces, we'd say these are most likely 1930s-40s and the glasswork was probably done in-house at Schlevogt rather than by Riedel.
