The set includes one teapot and five matching tea cups, preserved in the original paulownia wood storage box with its lid.A particularly attractive feature for collectors is the traditional horse motif, known as Koma-e. A beautifully rendered gold horse appears on the side of the teapot, and horse decoration can also be found on the bottoms of the tea cups. The horse motif, also known as the Running Horse or Left-Facing Horse, has traditionally been regarded as an auspicious design associated with good fortune, family safety, and longevity. This makes the set especially appealing to collectors of Japanese pottery and horse-themed art.The teapot also features the distinctive double-wall construction characteristic of Soma Ware. An air layer between the inner and outer walls provides insulation, helping the contents retain heat while making the exterior more comfortable to hold when filled with hot tea.The heart-shaped openings in the double-wall design are not simply hearts. They traditionally represent chidori (plovers), a beloved Japanese decorative motif associated with waves and safe travel. The accompanying bamboo-like lines represent waves.
