This is an authentic vintage Thai temple stone rubbing, a classic piece of Mid-Century Asian art. These rubbings were created by placing rice paper over the intricate relief carvings of ancient temples—most notably Wat Pho in Bangkok—and hand-rubbing them with charcoal or colored wax.
Because the Thai government banned this practice in the late 1960s to protect the original stone carvings, these original rubbings have become highly sought-after collectibles.
