Description:
Up for sale is a substantial "New Old Stock" (NOS) wholesale estate lot of 80 original World War I U.S. Army Great Seal uniform buttons. This lot features a mix of loose pieces and buttons still mounted on their original factory merchant stock distribution cards.
This unissued century-old surplus lot includes exactly:
- 32 Large Buttons (Approx. 28mm - Standard tunic front closure / overcoat size. 12 remain mounted to the card, 25 are loose.)
- 43 Small Buttons (Approx. 15mm - Standard pocket flap / cuff size. 20 remain mounted to the card, 23 are loose.)
Backmark Details:
The buttons feature crisp, deeply stamped historical contractor backmarks. The visible stamps include the highly desirable "J.C.L. SHABECK PROV. R.I." (Jacob C. L. Shabeck of Providence, Rhode Island) and "WATERBURY BUTTON CO." contract marks.
Condition Report:
This lot is in excellent vintage, unissued surplus condition. The buttons retain their beautiful, original matte/gilt brass finish with an authentic century-old patina. The metal loops/shanks are straight, rigid, and completely intact. The original heavy cardboard merchant cards are included and show minor edge wear and age consistent with a century of storage, providing excellent historical provenance. They have never been cleaned, polished, or altered, preserving their maximum historical value.
This is a fantastic bulk lot for advanced militaria catalogers, World War I uniform restorers, reenactors, or museum reference.
