The Watts Summer Festival is the oldest and the longest running African American cultural festival in the United States. The festival was founded in1966 by community activist Tommy Jaquette following the 1965 Watts Rebellion. The Watts Summer Festival was to promote healing, unity and Black culture pride.This historical festival features live music, local food booths, the Sankofa Youth Village and sports events like the community basketball game.
