A beautiful handwoven African Tonga basket featuring a striking brown and natural fiber whirlwind spiral geometric design and central eye motif. Providence is unknown: is an estate sale find from a well-traveled military officer. A beautiful authentic artisan-crafted statement piece featuring tight, detailed weaving; strong radial symmetry; braided rim construction; beautiful contrast in the natural and dark fibers; and a large 18\" decorator-friendly size.
Traditionally woven by BaTonga artisans of Zimbabwe, these type baskets were originally used for winnowing grain. Now, they\'re highly sought after as statement wall decor and ethnographic folk art.
