Sosaku is a term that literally translated as \"creative\" and those creative koseshi allow the artist complete freedom in terms of shape, design and color while traditional kokeshi exhibits a similar recognizable style and character.
The history of creative kokeshi is quite new and they were developed after World War II. They are not particular to a specific region of Japan and generally creative kokeshi artists are found in cities.
